Ultimate Holiday Week

There sure were a lot of crazy holidays to celebrate this week. We jumped right in and partied along with all the other wacky people who have nothing better to do than find made up holidays to keep them entertained.

Sunday, Sep 16 National Cinnamon Raisin Bread Day. Why? Well, why not?

Sunday, Sep 16 National Play Doh Day. They made a lot of little snakes, some little bit bigger snakes, and one really, really big snake.

Homemade Play Dough - So you can make snakes too!

1 C. flour
1/4 C. salt
1 C. water
1 T. salad oil
2 tsp. cream of tartar
food coloring

Mix together in heavy saucepan until lumps are out. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until very thick and pulling away from the sides. Remove from heat. Cool. Knead for a few minutes. Store in tightly sealed plastic bag or container.

Variations: Use unsweetened Kool-Aid instead of food coloring. If you want your dough to smell nice, use 1 tablespoon baby oil instead of the salad oil. Try food coloring gels for more intense colors.

Sunday, Sep 16 National Collect Rocks Day. Jon's heap of rocks sorted and displayed to pass off a Cub Scout achievement. Now what do we do with them?

More Sunday, Sep 16 holidays we did not celebrate: Mayflower Day, Mexican Independence Day, Step Family Day, Working Parents Day, Rosh Hashannah begins. But we did inadvertently celebrate...

National Stay Away From Seattle Day! You are welcome Seattle, glad we could help you out today.

Monday, Sep 17 National Apple Dumpling Day. They are Dani's favorite dessert, she made me do it. We love this recipe.

It is also Constitution Day. 225 years old, the Constitution celebrates its birthday. That would be its Quasquibicentennial?  Yes! We truly love America.

We also celebrated National Butterscotch Pudding Day, Punch Day (the drink - just in case there were any questions), Elephant Appreciation Day (Elijah loves elephants, always has), and Hobbit Day (Elijah ate 7 meals - for real!).

Our last but not least:

Friday, Sep 21 World Gratitude Day. Everyone wrote down three things they are grateful for. Ginny - Drinking (water), playing (games), "cuh-tuh-ween" (cuddling). Jake - My sweet kids, my beautiful wife, the gospel, incl. the Holy Ghost. Tina - our Best Bites new cook book, Savoring the Seasons, Health Insurance (saves us over $300 a month on Lige's meds), Looking forward to a date with Jake (we saw Jane Austen's Persuasion at the Off Broadway Theater). Danielle - A working brain (she is just finishing her CNA class), Education, Family. Jon - A world! A family! Jesus Christ! Gabrielle - Family, the gospel, a home. Elijah - books, animals, school.

Whew! There were a lot we missed too. Sadly, Rice Krispie Treat Day, Cheeseburger Day (we only had stuff for hot dogs), Ice Cream Cone Day (we thought that was last week, and the week before...), and White Chocolate Day (Jake's favorite, even though it isn't even really chocolate, we will have to make it up to him).
